This 22GN HD from Big Tex Trailers has unique features, and it is a great value in gooseneck flatbed trailers. Big Tex Trailers has invested tens of millions of dollars in automated assembly line systems and robotic welding and cutting to ensure the quality of construction and best-in-class paint finishes. Each Big Tex gooseneck trailer is manufactured with repeatable quality and tested in their state-of-the-art coating facility. This manufacturing process represents more than 1.2 million square feet across the United States. All of these components are assembled in hopes that your trailer will provide long-lasting service.

Low Profile & I-Beam

The Big Tex 22GN HD has a standard low-profile beam frame. The neck has a 12” I-beam on the neck and frame. This is pretty much standard in the trailer manufacturing business.

Lengths

The Big Tex 22GN Trailer comes in a variety of lengths to meet your specific needs. The available lengths are 20 foot, 25 foot, 28 foot, 30 foot, 32 foot, 35 foot, 36 foot, and 40 foot.

Torque Tube

A torque tube comes standard on a 28 flatbed or longer. A torque tube can help prevent the gooseneck trailer from getting frame fatigue or frame flex. When a trailer has frame fatigue or frame flex, it can start shaking and veering in other lanes as you are driving down the road. You cannot haul loads safely when your trailer is fatigued, and your trailer becomes unfit and unsafe for you and other drivers.

Hotshot trucker should not have to worry if their trailer is going to be safe and efficient when hauling large loads. If your trailer has a torque tube, it will be dependable and compensate for the weight. Hotshot truckers can haul loads of all sizes, and the trailer will last even longer.

LED Lights

The lights on the Big Tex 22GN are LED lights. This allows for your trailer to be well-lit and provides more visibility. The LED lights are also Department of Transportation (DOT) approved. The lights are legal all across the United States and Canada. This is great for hotshot truckers because your trailer has to meet DOT standards.

By having the lights already DOT approved, hotshot truckers have peace of mind. It also means hotshot truckers will not have to spend additional money on getting the proper lights after they have already bought the trailer.

Drop Leg Dual Jacks

The 22GN HD has 12,000-pound drop leg dual jacks. The dual jacks are bolted on to the 22GN HD. Trailers that use drop leg dual jacks have a functional combination of working gears as well as a drop leg feature. The drop leg dual jacks allow for an easier and smooth shifting from gears.

Tie Down Pockets & Pipe Chain Spools

The Big Tex 22GN has tie down pockets along the sides of the trailer. The tie down pockets is 24 inches on the center. Instead of tying ropes, cords, or straps to the trailer’s side rails or greasy undercarriage, tie down pockets provide much better anchor points for attaching those ropes, cords, or straps. This will protect your load even more.

The 22GN also has 1-1/4” pipe chain spools between tie down pockets. The pipe chain spools are round pieces of pipe added between the stake pockets for several reasons. Pipe chain spools give added support to the rub rails and lesson the problem of bending your rub rails. Pipe chain spools also make it easier when chaining down your load. It is obviously easier to run your chains around a smooth rolled surface rather than a sharp edge of a stake pocket causing the links of the chain to snag and have slack in the securement.

Two-Sided Steps and Rub Rails

The Big Tex 22GN comes equipped with two side bed steps and handles. Hotshot truckers will obviously load their trailer, and they will check on their load. The two side steps (on each side of the trailer) allows hotshot truckers to get on and get off the bed of their trailer easier.

The Big Tex 22GN also has 3/8 inch heavy duty rub rails. Rub rails are valuable to your trailer. The rub rails are designed to “rub” against other objects (i.e. walls or highway barricades, etc.). This allows the rub rails to absorb impact and trauma. This protects the trailer from damage. The rub rails also protect the chains, straps, and ropes that are commonly used to secure cargo on the trailer.

Flatbed

The flatbed of the Big Tex 22GN has an overall width of 102 inches. The floor of the flatbed is two inches deep. The floor is treated wood. The wood used is treated pine or Douglas Fir., but Douglas Fir is only available from the facility in Caldwell, Idaho.

Mounted Spare Tire

The Big Tex 22GN HD also comes with a mounted spare tire at the top of the neck. I am fairly sure no one ever plans on getting a flat tire on the road. When you are stuck on the side of the road with a flat tire, you are not getting your load where it needs to go. Time is money in the hotshot business, and things like flat tires can be damaging to your business. When your trailer has a spare tire, it is important to your business and safety.

Crank-Style Adjustable Coupler

The Big Tex 22GN has a crank-style adjustable coupler. The 22GN has 2-5/16” ball adjustable coupler- square crank. This helps stabilize the trailer.

Dovetail & Ramps

There is a 5-foot dovetail with a 5-foot double hinged spring assist flip-over ramps. The spring assist ramps are usually an option on most Big Tex Trailers, but they come standard on the Big Tex 22GN. The ramps make it easier to haul loads onto the trailer. You can use the dovetail to work on the trailer, as well.

Adjustable Suspension System

The 22GN has Big Tex Exclusive HD Adjustable Suspension System. The adjustable suspension system automatically raises and lowers the deck height of a towed trailer. This allows for the trailer’s desk to be adjustable. Adjustable suspension systems help with the loading and unloading of the cargo on to the trailer.

Lockable Toolbox

There is a lockable tool box between the gooseneck uprights on the Big Tex 22GN. Hotshot truckers can store whatever tools and equipment they need conveniently in the toolbox. Since the toolbox is lockable, hotshot truckers do not have to worry about their tools, equipment, or any of the other contents of their toolbox being stolen.

Dexter Axles

There are two 10,000 dual wheels, oil bath Dexter Axles on the Big Tex 22GN. They come standard with electric brakes. Each Dexter Axle can hold 10,000 pounds. Dexter Axles are a progressive and trusted leader in the automotive industry. Dexter Axles are designed and crafted to last for years. Dexter Axles provide quality and durability to your trailer. You can count on them being heavy duty, and they will last for years to come.

Weight Specifics

The 22GN HD has a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 23,900 pounds. The 22GN HD also has a gross axle weight rating (GAWR) of 10,000 pounds (each axle).

The Big Tex Trailer team has certified engineers and technicians that have designed optimal trailers for maximum payloads and strength. This allows hotshot truckers to push their trailer to the limits with their heavy loads.

Modular Sealed Wiring Harness

The wiring of the Big Tex 22GN is protected in a modular sealed wiring harness. There are various wires that allow the transfer of power for the lighting, as well as auxiliary functions such as an electric trailer brake controller, backup lights, or power supply for a winch, or interior trailer lights. If your gooseneck trailer is not equipped with a preformed wire harness, the wires are susceptible to being ruined.

When your wires are ruined, your trailer cannot function properly. You cannot use the brake controller, backup lights, power supply, or the trailer lights. That can be dangerous for you and other drivers on the road. The sealed wiring harness on the 22GN will resist any harsh weather.

Editor’s Rating: 8/10

The Big Tex 22GN HD Tandem Dual Axle Gooseneck is a great trailer. The Big Tex 22GN does not come with a lot of features you would expect to come standard with the trailer. Big Tex’s Mega Ramps would be a great addition to the trailer, or if there were a torque tube on all trailers (not just the ones that are 28 feet or longer). Those are two important features that would not only benefit hotshot truckers, but it would also help the trailer provide long-lasting service. Both of these are upgrades, and that means you have to pay additional money for those features.

With that being said, Big Tex does have multiple manufacturing facilities, and they have a large dealership network. You can find a dealership on their website, and find a Big Tex dealership near you.
