The ridesharing company Uber has launched a new freight brokerage trucking app and service called Uber Freight. Here is what you need to know about it.
How Does It Work?
Uber Freight is a free app that matches carriers with shippers. You start by filtering loads by location and date to find the best load for you. New freight is added to the app every day, so if you do not see one that fits, you can check back soon.
Carriers have to press a button to book a load, and then receive the amount that is in the app. The app shows you the price for a load and the load details. With the press of a button, you can choose to haul that load.
The goal of Uber Freight is to remove the hassles of trucking (downtime, paperwork, bad loads, deadhead miles, etc.), and you can currently sign up for free.
Uber Freight does require the following:
Active Department of Transportation (DOT) / Motor Carrier Number
No Conditional or Unsatisfactory Safety Rating
Bank Account Information
Proof of Insurance
How Payment Works
Uber Freight does pay carrier within the 7 days of receiving an accepted proof of delivery, and the payment is directly deposited into your bank account. That is why it is important to have the adequate banking information.
